The Value of One’s Tribe

For an individual who makes a living producing creative work, one of the most important concerns should be the building of one’s Tribe. What that means is finding those people whose values, beliefs, and interests resonate with those of one’s own, and gathering them close. These are your People, and if the work you do speaks to their hearts, and their souls, and to the things they love and want most, when you have a need, they can be summoned to bring their strength to bear to help you accomplish mighty things.

In the Information Age, finding one’s people is easier to do than ever before, when those connections can be initiated and maintained electronically, giving one the means to have a truly global Tribe of supporters — a global family of people who can help you achieve things, because you have shown them, by example, by word, by deed, and by all your choices, that you are also part of their Tribe, and you will not let them fall when they need someone to reach out to them.

As a creator, where the strength of my Tribe made a truly significant event come about was when I decided to do a crowdsourced Kickstarter project to publish the ebook DRAWING OUT THE DRAGONS as a limited-edition run of paperback and hardcover books. Not only did that work spectacularly well, but the effects of that event still resonate today, with the new Shadow Mountain edition of the book that is now being sold to a readership all over the world.

Now, I’m preparing to do another project through Kickstarter — one which is near and dear to my heart, and which has played a role in my career that is as significant as anything I’ve ever done. I’m getting ready to announce it soon, and when I do, it’s going to take a lot of effort, and heart, and will to bring it about, which is why I’m telling you, my Tribe, about it first.

On my own, my strengths are very limited. But together, we can do extraordinary things. One of those things, which will be announced very shortly, is pictured below. Rev your engines. Wait for the flag to drop. Then come help me make this happen.
