On The Subject Of Awesomism
I have come to a realization this morning – and it’s harder to admit than I expected. But I think it needs to be said, as honestly and forthrightly as possible.
I’m actually really good at being Awesome.
I have, as everyone does, good days and lousy days. The good days chug through on their own. But the bad ones can go either way – they can get worse, or they can get better. And the best way to turn a bad day into a good one is to be Awesome at something.
The problem is, when you’re having a bad day, it’s hard to even think about doing anything Awesome much less just being Awesome, but that’s where it has to start. You have to believe it. And it’s easier to believe if you – or the people close to you – can remind you that you’ve done Awesome things before, which means you can do Awesome things again, which means the power to be Awesome is IN YOU ALL THE TIME.
You just have to wake up, get up, and acknowledge that, yes, you just may in fact be Awesome. That’s how your day should start. It’s a huge responsibility, to expect to do Awesome things with your day – but you can’t win, you can’t succeed, you can’t perform SUPERLATIVELY, if you don’t expect to before you even begin, and keep believing that as you work, no matter what comes.
So, it starts there, with the acknowledgement: “Hi. I’m James. And I’m pretty freaking AWESOME. Watch what happens to my day NOW.”
And, I’m pretty sure you are Awesome too. You just have to start by knowing you are. So, go get to it. I’ll be right here doing Awesome things beside you.
